Virtualization, Data Compliance and Green E-Waste Disposal

Some of our  favorite words most recently are the words VIRTUALIZE and VIRTUALIZATION.

Let me explain why, but first let’s look at what it means.

The definition of virtualization in WIKIPEDIA says”

“In computing, virtualization is the creation of a virtual (opposed to actual) version of something, such as a hardware platform, operating system (OS), storage device, or network resources.

While a physical computer in the classical sense is clearly a complete and actual machine, both subjectively (from the user’s point of view) and objectively (from the hardware system administrators point of view), a virtual machine is subjectively a complete machine (or very close), but objectively merely a set of files and running programs on an actual, physical machine (which the user need not necessarily be aware of).

Virtualization can be viewed as part of an overall trend in enterprise IT that includes autonomic computing, a scenario in which the IT environment will be able to manage itself based on perceived activity, and utility computing, in which computer processing power is seen as a utility that clients can pay for only as needed. The usual goal of virtualization is to centralize administrative tasks while improving scalability and overall hardware-resource utilization.”

More Specifically, what this means to us is that we see the GREEN/SUSTAINABILITY aspect of this.

Let’s break this down to the basics. The more companies virtualize their infrastructure by using VMWARE, the more need for companies like XTechnology Global and our services (The re-marketing of old hardware, the recycling of what is not needed anymore, the data compliance piece of it all), to make sure that all the information is responsibly removed and certified that there is full compliance being met on all that information.  We help companies put together their GREEN/Sustainability programs as it relates to their IT and infrastructure. Anything considered E-WASTE needs to be disposed of properly and tracked in accordance, and if money can be returned back to an IT budget it is a WIN-WIN for all concerned.

The CEO, CIO and CFO’s all are starting to see that this is important, and not to mention but we will, the investors.

So next time you hear the word virtualization , ask what happens to the equipment being taken offline and can it still be put to good use?
